“There’s a Man in the Habit of Hitting Me on the Head with an Umbrella”
by Fernando Sorrentino
Translated by Clark M. Zlotchew
The title says it all for this three-page story written by contemporary writer Fernando Sorrentino. A man is indeed hit upon the head by another man with an umbrella. It’s an absurd tale, which conjures the image of a Monty Python sketch. The title alone sparks the silliness and the ending, though on the predictable side, punctuates the guilty pleasure of the surreal wackiness.
