If you haven’t seen the 1995 film version of Persuasion, you might want to take a look. It was directed by Roger Michell and stars Amanda Root as Anne and Ciarán Hinds as Captain Wentworth. These actors did an excellent job of capturing all the subtleties of the characters. Corin Redgrave, as Sir Walter, is vanity itself. There are countless fine performances in this film. Additionally, Michell directed one of the most romantic scenes in film: a close-up of their two gloved hands meeting amidst the backdrop of a street carnival. It’s definitely worth watching.
